Find Activities To Do In Amsterdam:

The best moment to visit Amsterdam really depends on what you would like to do in Amsterdam!

If you are looking to do a city trip when the weather is nice, then the best moment to visit Amsterdam would be between April and September. During this period the weather in Amsterdam is the most pleasant.

If you want to see tulips, visit the city in the spring! To avoid mass crowds, consider to vitit Amsterdam in spring and autumn. To feel the magical vibe of Amsterdam, visit the city in December.

If you are looking for cheap hotels in Amsterdam, go in the low season. Between February and April, you will find more affordable accommodations and flight tickets to Amsterdam.

The current time in Amsterdam is: GMT+1 (winter time). In the Netherlands, the time zone is CET (Central European Time).

In New York, it is 6 hours earlier than in the Netherlands. Meaning that if it is 3 o’clock in the afternoon here (3pm), it is 9 o’clock in the morning (9am) in New York.

We use summer and winter time here in the Netherlands.

A typical Dutch dish would be: ‘Boerenkool met worst’ (mashed potatoes with kale and sausage).

However, here in the Netherlands, we are more famous for our snacks and finger-foods. We would really recommend you trying ‘Poffertjes’ (small pancake), ‘Bitterballen’ (bite-size deep-fried beef stew balls), and ‘Stroopwafels’ (our famous cookies).

We use Euro as currency in the Netherlands. For the conversion of foreign currency, you can go to Amsterdam currency offices in the city or at Schiphol airport. Be aware that only some supermarkets in the city accept credit cards (American Express / Mastercard / Visa). European debit cards will usually work in the Netherlands.

In general, Amsterdam is considered to be a relatively expensive European city. Accommodation will be a significant part of your travel costs.

However, there are ways to save money while visiting Amsterdam! Such as staying in a cheaper area of the city, buying food from supermarkets, and using public transportation.

It’s also worth doing some research and planning ahead to find deals and discounts on activities, attractions, and other things to do in the city. On Amsterdam Insights, you can read all about this!

An average meal in a decent restaurant in the city center for dinner will cost you around 14-20 euros per person (drinks not included). Ordering a (small) beer at a terrace will cost you around 3.50 euros. By American standards, Amsterdam is usually considered to be affordable. Tipping is not mandatory in Amsterdam (however, it is really appreciated though).

Good things to know before you come: Amsterdam is the most expensive city in the world for street parking (7.50€ per hour).
